Sim (nee Tobias), Joanne Gail, (March 21, 2018)

Peacefully on March 21, 2018 at C.E.E. Hospital of Bluewater Health, Petrolia, Joanne Gail Sim (nee Tobias) passed away at the age of 80. Beloved wife to the late Edward Sim (2006). Loving mother to Patricia Sim (Frank Rabley), Douglas Sim, Catherine Sim (Paul Gulliver), and James Sim. Proud grandma to Alanna Rabley (Alan), Madison Sim and Jana Sim. Predeceased by her parents Vaughan and Irene Tobias. Joanne called Petrolia home for her entire life, she was raised on Tank St., and was proud to call herself a lifelong resident. Joanne trained as a nurse and graduated with the class of 1958 – working for a time at Sarnia General Hospital and then worked for many years in a local Petrolia doctor’s office. Joanne was a dedicated and caring nurse who was devoted to her patients in her community. Joanne enjoyed many reunions with her graduating nursing class, as well as her high school class, and still did so until recently. Joanne’s long-lasting friendships meant the world to her and always looked forward to their visits and staying in touch. She was a devoted, caring mother and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by her family. Joanne’s family would like to thank Dr. Maddison, Terri Pask, and the caring team at both St. Joseph’s Hospice and Bluewater Health Palliative Care, Dr. Yoshida and Dr. Lilly and the nurses and volunteers at the Bluewater Health Oncology department, and the entire staff at C.E.E. Hospital for their exemplary care and compassion. Visitors will be received by the family on Monday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Needham-Jay Funeral Home, 4059 Petrolia Line, Petrolia, where a funeral service will take place on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 1pm. Cremation to follow. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the C.E.E.
