SLOAN, Sister Patrick – The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, London Neighbourhood, announce the death of our dear Sister Patrick Sloan at the Residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph at 485 Windermere Road in London. Sister died on Thursday, December 14, 2017, accompanied on the last part of her journey by the Sisters along with her niece, Anne Alexander, and a few friends. Sister M. Patrick, [Alma Margaret Sloan] was born in Fournier, Ontario, September 28,1924 and joined the Community of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1953. She is remembered with affection by all her CSJ Sisters as well as her many relatives, and friends. Predeceased by her mother, Charlotte (Andrews)and her father, George, brothers Alfred, Stephen, Lewis, Lawrence, Patrick and Bernard, and sisters Rita (Lalonde) and Lucy (Lalonde). Survived by her sister, Theresa (Shane) and numerous nieces and nephews. Sister Patrick taught elementary school children in Delaware, Maidstone, London, Riverside and Windsor before moving to the secondary level where she taught and served as librarian at St. Patrick’s High School in Sarnia, and later as receptionist, and volunteer librarian at St. Joseph’s High School in St. Thomas. After retiring from teaching, she served as a Residence supervisor at Mount St. Joseph Academy and as librarian at the Mount. She was involved in the charismatic renewal, and in Cursillo, making lots of long standing and faith-filled friends. Sister Patrick was truly a people-person, always ready to engage with those she met and served, and providing a trusted and kind listening ear to many. Even in her later years, as her health and mobility declined, Sister Patrick maintained an active ministry of letter writing, and visiting, providing a compassionate ear, wise advice and prayerful support to many people. She will be greatly missed by her Sisters in community, her dear friend, Sister Eileen Foran, her sister, Theresa, her nieces, especially Anne Alexander, her nephews and extended family, and by her many correspondents and visitors. All services will be held at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 485 Windermere Road. Visitation will be on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2:30-4:30 and 7:00 -8:30 with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, Dec. 22, at 11:00 a.m. with Father R. Charrette presiding.
