Sold out President’s Gala at Lambton College will support capital campaign

CBC star Steve Patterson followed in footsteps of Rick Mercer, last year's inaugural headliner

Lambton College president and CEO Judith Morris says she is “shocked” (but in a happy way) with the overwhelming support the community has brought to the President’s Gala, a sold-out event now in its second year. Held last Saturday at the Event Centre owned by the school, organizers say the event raised $60,500 for the school’s capital campaign.

“I can’t believe how supportive they are,” said Morris. “This gala is not inexpensive [tickets were $250] and people are willing to support the college in a significant way. What a special community we have.”

Comedian Steve Patterson, who hosts the Debaters on CBC Radio, was the “star” of the gala event, following in the steps (or jetstream as Patterson put it) of Rick Mercer, who headlined last year’s inaugural President’s Gala.

Patterson has a local connection, with family that resides in Corunna, where he has built many fond memories.

He also put in a bit of a plug for students who might be “debating” (no pun intended) whether to attend university or an institution like Lambton College.
