In his 74th year, at St. Joseph’s Hospice Sarnia, James Robert Sperling passed away peacefully surrounded by family, and went on to a new beginning on Saturday, December 16, 2017. Husband of 50 years to Carolyn Sperling (McNally). Will be greatly missed by his children; Kenneth (Lisa) Sperling of London, Glen (Dawn) Sperling of Petrolia, and David (Maritza) Sperling of Calgary. He will also be missed by grandchildren Wilfred, Keaton, Edison, and Andrea. Sadly missed by his aunt Eleanor Sperling of Corunna. James was the son of the late Herman and Louise Sperling and brother of Douglas (Sue) Sperling of Illinois. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH, 429 Indian Rd. N. (at Hickory), Sarnia, on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with family and friends being received one hour prior at the church. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to the St. Joseph’s Hospice (cheques only at the funeral home please). Jim was a teacher with the Lambton County Board of Education for 30 years (grades 7-8’s). He also enjoyed teaching aquatic lifesaving at the YMCA for over 28 years. As well, he devoted his time to choir directing and singing, both at his church as well as community groups. Jim was also an avid gardener, carpenter and amateur photographer.
