When Jane Keast, Suncor's director of operations, came to the Sarnia Police Services board meeting on Thursday, she had more than a $5,000 cheque to present on behalf of her employer, the money to be used to buy an All-Terrain Vehicle.
Keast, who lives in London and travels daily to her job at the local refinery, was herself caught in the December storm that had Sarnia Police beginning to think about how to better equip officers should such an occurrence repeat itself.
Keast tells her story here:
Previously, the Sarnia Police Services board amended its policy on accepting monetary gifts, specifically with the idea of a corporation such as Suncor making the donation.
Since the weather event, Suncor has recognized plant safety with the presentation of preparation kits to employees. As Jane Keast said at the end of the above video, the kits are nicknamed "The Keaster."
She and Sarnia Police Chief Phil Nelson are pictured.
