Those attending call centre job fair will get free transit tickets

Sarnia Transit says it will provide two free ride tickets to job hunters attending an upcoming job fair being held by HGS, a national company that is eyeing the area for a possible new call centre.

Geoff Greening, market development consultant with the Sarnia Lambton Economic Partnership, said HGS is using the two-day visit, Oct. 29-30, as a means of evaluating which of two locations (Sarnia being one of them) will be chosen.

There is the potential for some 500 jobs should HGS choose Sarnia.

Organizers are hoping that as many as 1,500 applicants will be at the job fair, to be held at the Lambton Inn, 1485 London Rd., from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days.

Jim Stevens, Sarnia’s director of transit, said his organization “is delighted to have the opportunity to be a part of this job fair.”

On both days of the event, for added convenience for job fair attendees, a temporary bus stop on Route 9 (Lambton College) will be established near the Lambton Inn. Sarnia Transit is also promoting the job fair through on-bus and bus terminal advertising.

All levels of applicants are encouraged to attend, even those who choose to go online at
