Tickets for World Under 17 Hockey Challenge now on sale to general public

Single game tickets for the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge that takes place from October 31 to November 8 in Sarnia-Lambton are now on sale.

A Gold and Bronze Medal games package is also on sale to the general public.

The tournament will be the first to feature three Canadian national teams. The Sarnia Sting’s first round draft choice, Jakob Chychrun and forward Jordan Kyrou have been selected to play for Canada White of the three Canadian teams playing in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

In less than two weeks, the three Canadian teams will be joined by Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and the United States, with two groups of four teams. All eight teams will qualify for the quarter-finals, with the winners advancing to the semifinals, and losers facing off in placement games.

The 24-game tournament will be centered out of the RBC Centre, home of the OHL’s Sarnia Sting, but will also feature games at The Shores Recreation Centre in Forest, Ont. Those two communities, along with Petrolia and Watford, will host pre-tournament games on October 31.

This year marks Hockey Canada’s and Sarnia’s 100th Anniversary and to commemorate the 100th Anniversary, all three Canadian teams will be wearing the Hockey Canada 100th Anniversary Jerseys. This year is only the seventh time in its 29-year history that the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge has been held in Ontario.

The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge will also give Sarnia-Lambton’s knowledgeable hockey fans a first look at true international hockey, while supporting local minor hockey initiatives.
