In this special edition of Spotlight, Lambton Shield editor J.D. Booth spoke with Lindsay Kirkland, a 19-year-old resident of Point Edward, who found herself facing first hand the challenges around mental health.
Twice (the first in late 2016 and then again in early 2017) she was admitted to Bluewater Health for help with her illness, but that wasn’t the end of her story.
Kirkland created a group—Stigma Survivors—to help raise awareness of mental health issues. The latest activity she’s undertaking is an online bake sale, with funds being raised going to help with the recreational therapy program at 3 West, the mental health facility at the Bluewater Health Sarnia site.
She has challenged others to help by going to the Stigma Survivors Facebook page and helping with the online bake sale.
