United Way campaign nears $1 million mark

Campaign organizers say pace is slightly behind last year

Stacey Luckhurst and Candice Cowper get ready for the rush at the Canada Border Services Agency Pasta Fest at the Bluewater Bridge in Point Edward to raise money and awareness of the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton campaign. The CBSA campaign has been running for three weeks and hope to build on last year’s success.

With the first million dollars within reach, we are still inching forward to hit that point.

We are running about 10 days behind last year’s pace.  We had hit the first million dollars raised last year on October 12, 2017.  To put it another way, on this date last year, we had reached 54%; so we are about $100,000 behind last year’s pace.  We still think this might be an issue to timing, however, we are monitoring the situation carefully.  All industrial employee campaigns in our area are running and next week, the school campaigns will being to wind down.

Most other employee groups including retail business and government employees either have or soon will kick off their campaigns as well.

So far, 2,000 people have pledged their support and we will need about 2,500 more to reach the $2,000,000 goal.

This week, two NOVA Chemicals Sites will hold events, MECC with host a “Minute to Win It” contest to raise money and awareness of the campaign, and the Moore site will hold another BBQ.

TransAlta is holding a parking lot fundraiser and a Calzone Lunch.

Department of Fisheries and Oceans employees kicked off today, and will hold a car wash in their lot on Wednesday morning.

We are pleased to report that the Locally Lambton dinner planned for this Saturday is a complete sell out and we wanted to thank all the donating farms and businesses plus the students and everybody associated with Lambton College for their assistance in United Way being able to hold the dinner.

We are very excited to partner for the first time with the Dante Club who will host a Pasta Fest on Thursday, November 15th, 2018.  Tickets are $15 each, and both eat in or take out is available.  Please call 519-336-5452 to reserve your tickets.
