United Way campaign results jump 10% in one week

Total is now $1.3 million—just over 66% of $2 million goal

Employees and volunteers at Shell Canada participate in their annual Chili lunch to help finalize their 2018 United Way employee campaign. The Shell Employees and Retirees totals to date have slightly surpassed last year. As a result, the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton now sits at 66.5% of the $2,000,000 goal.

The United Way campaign jumped by 10% from last week to this week as the Shell Canada employee campaign has reported their campaign totals.

Although Shell is not quite finished, the results did push the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton campaign to $1,330,000, or 66.5% of the $2,000,000 goal.

Shell Canada employees and retirees rallied in the final hours of their campaign this fall, and when we thought they might finish lower than last year, they pulled ahead of last year.

Shell Canada extended their deadline for the match to ensure all retiree donations were included.   I really want to thank the Shell employees and retirees for their help this year.  In a year where we needed a boost, it was great to see employees and retirees from Shell support the campaign like they did.

We really have had a lot of activity in the campaign this fall and we are hopeful that it will result in more donations by the end of the campaign.  We still have five weeks to go and right now we are focusing on getting those campaign still running to finish as strong as they can.  Already, we have witnessed a number of first time doors.

At the first ever United Way Dante Club Pasta Fest, 176 people attended and had plenty of Lambton County’s best homemade pasta and sauce, meatballs, and salad.  While we are still adding the proceeds, we believe we will have raised over $1,400.

Next up for the United Way in terms of event is the second annual United Way Drewlo Stair Climb at 1285 Sandy Lane on Giving Tuesday; Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

Participants can climb up and down up to three Drewlo buildings at Sandy Lane and raise money for the United Way.  Participants are asked to sponsor themselves or to get enough sponsors to total $50 or more, and they will receive a cooler bag, and their picture taken to celebrate their success.
