Unplanned plant shutdown for Shell Sarnia manufacturing facility this morning

There was an unplanned plant shutdown at the Shell Sarnia Manufacturing Centre just after 8 a.m. this morning according to plant authorities.

Electrical notifications are said to have alerted Shell personnel to a lightning strike at the refinery.

“There were no injuries, but as a result of the shutdown and subsequent startup of the plant, there is a larger than normal flare,” said Shell spokesperson Kristina Zimmer.

She added that shell personnel are working to safely restore operations to normal.
