Update: Sarnia Police say they have recovered some of cash taken but still looking for safe

Sarnia Police say they have recovered some cash that they believe was stolen from a home in the Wiltshire subdivision last week (previously reported in LambtonShield.com) but are continuing their search for the safe where the money was originally stored.

The recovery, police said in a media release, was made after the Criminal Investigations Branch executed a search warrant Thursday. The residence searched, in the 800 block of Exmouth, was where the accused in the case, Jamie Douglas Kirby, had been staying prior to his arrest.

Police also said other evidence linking Kirby to the crimes he is being charged with (theft over $5,000 and mischief over $5,000)) were recovered in search.

Kirby is being accused of staging a break and enter in the Wiltshire subdivision home.

Police say the undisclosed amount of cash recovered has been returned to the homeowner, but the search for a beige-coloured Sentry safe (measuring approximately 18 inches by 12 inches) continues.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Sarnia Police at (519) 344-8861, extension 6151.

Kirby remains in custody and is to appear next on Sept. 10 for a bail hearing.
