Sarnia’s Walmart Supercentre will be able to sell beer and cider as of June 30th.

The store will be able to sell beer and cider, packaged in a six-pack or less, from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Staff selling alcohol must have provincial training on alcohol sales and the store is required to adhere to any uniform and minimum pricing regulations.

Walmart Sarnia and 75 other grocery stores will join the list of 130 grocery stores across the province currently authorized to sell beer and cider – 70 of which can also sell wine.

6 Months later and Walmart in Sarnia still isn’t selling beer! I’m beginning to wonder if they ever had the intention of selling beer to start with? It appears to me that they just wanted to secure the only spot in Sarnia so that the competition didn’t get it and lure grocery customers away from Walmart! That shouldn’t be allowed, they should have a time limit to get it implemented or it goes to the next grocery candidate in line (maybe superstore).
