Westminster Avenue experienced two separate break and enters over weekend

Police said two homes on Westminster Avenue in Sarnia were broken into sometime between Sep. 1 and Sep. 2.

In the first case, someone entered through a rear patio door which was left unlocked and removed a man’s wallet and a woman’s purse from the kitchen area sometime after 11 p.m. Cash and identification was allegedly contained in both missing items. Police said the homeowners were asleep inside the home at the time.

In the second, slightly more mysterious, break and enter, a resident was in his basement when he heard footsteps on the upper floor at about 10:15 p.m. Thinking it was another family member or friend, the male occupant remained downstairs.

When no one came downstairs to greet the male occupant, he wisely decided to head upstairs when he saw that his front door was open.

The home was searched by police and no one was found inside. Police said it does not appear that anything was taken. A gate on the north side of the residence was also found open.

Police ask that if anyone has information on either of these two incidents, to please call Sarnia Police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
