Young girl assaulted on way to school this morning

A young girl was assaulted on her way to school this morning, narrowly escaping what appeared to be an abduction attempt due to raw adrenalin and quick thinking on the part of the young lady.

The 12-year-old girl was on Mitton Street, between Cameron and Cobden Streets, riding her bicycle to school, heading north on the east sidewalk, when a black vehicle pulled into a nearby driveway. The male driver exited the car, approached the girl and grabbed her by the left arm.

Immediately, the feisty young lady reacted and kicked the suspect which caused him to retreat back to his car and flee southbound on Mitton Street.

The man is described as white, 5' 7" – 5' 11", skinny build, wearing a black hoodie with the hood up. On the hoodie was a white lettering on the upper left front. The male suspect was wearing dark pants and white runners. He had stubble on his chin.

The vehicle is described as an older model, mid-sized with rust along the bottom portion.

The girl went to her school, told the teacher, who in turn, called police and reported the incident. Police scoured the area and canvassed local businesses without success.

Police ask that if you have any information on this incident, please contact Sarnia Police Youth Branch, Constable Dave Schoch at 519-344-8861 Ext. 6121 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
