It is with great sadness that the family of Doug Zavitz of Strathroy, formerly of Paisley, announces his passing at L.H.S.C.-University Hospital at the age of 68. Doug is survived by his wife and best friend Ellen, his children Rob (Angie), Laura (Shawn) Molson and Allison (Pat) Filiatrault, and his grandchildren Enid, Rowan and Poppy. He is also survived by his mother Jean, his siblings Sandra (Carl) Martin, Steve (Terry), Larry (Linda), Charlie (Karen), Joanne (Scott) Carson, brother-in-law Mike (Marilyn) Duffy, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Sandy. Doug was born in Sarnia, and attended Central High School and the University of Waterloo. Doug and Ellen were high school sweethearts and were married for over 44 years. In 1973 Doug began working at Bruce Nuclear Plant and the family moved to Bruce Township in 1979. Doug was active in the community as a member of the Aldworth Masonic Lodge and as a leader in both Cubs and 4H. Doug enjoyed working on his farm, spending time in the outdoors, and watching his family gather and grow. Among friends and family, Doug was respected for his knowledge, wisdom and ingenuity. Above all, his family will remember him as a loving, devoted and patient husband, father, and grandfather. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at SMITH FAMILY CENTER, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. with words of tribute beginning at 2:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation or Scouts Canada (cheques only at the funeral home please).
